290,205. Abrassart, A. May 9, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Coking processes. - In a two stage low temperature distillation process, the fuel, such as coal, is mixed with semi-bituminous coal and after the first stage of distillation is ground, mixed with pitch, briquetted, and distilled at from 550 to 580‹ C. to leave a product containing 7-8 per cent of volatile matter. The fuel is dried - in a drum 1 mixed with the added material and charged through a hopper 2a into the first retort 2 having a rotary worm 2b and outlets 2<d> for the distillates. The residue is discharged through an outlet 2<g> mixed with pitch and briquetted and the briquettes are fed through a hopper 3<a> on to a conveyer 3<b> in a retort 3 from which the volatiles are recovered through outlets 3<k>. The retorts are heated by a furnace 3<h> or by gas burners. The briquettes obtained after the first distillation stage are suitable for use as a semi-bituminous fuel.
