Abstract

289,455. Patoul, C. de. April 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Driving- arrangements. - An electric motor adapted to drive a flexible shaft is mounted to allow motion about vertical and horizontal axes. The motor 7 is bolted to a. plate 3 secured to a cross-bar 4 pivoted by trunnions 5 in a yoke 1 carried bv a hook 2. Connection of the flexible shaft may either be made direct to the motor shaft or to an auxiliary shaft 11 which is driven through a belt and stepped pulleys 15, 16 and mounted in ball bearings 10 carried by a casing formed of two parts 9, 8. Vertical and horizontal adjustment between the parts 9, 8 is permitted by vertical and horizontal slots 14, 13 formed in the parts 9, 8 respectively, bolts 12 serving as securing means. Connection between the shaft 11 and a flexible core 17 is effected by a coupling sleeve 18, the sheath 19 of the core carrying a sleeve 20 adapted to be screwed into a sleeve 20<a> secured to the part 9. The sleeve 20 may be thus adjusted to allow for variation in the length of the sheath in relation to the core 17, a lock-nut 21 being provided on the sleeve 20. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a clutch connection for a, tool driven through the flexible shaft arranged to allow the bayonet handle to be rotated to uncouple the clutch without affecting the sheath of the shaft. The tool shaft 22, Fig. 3, is mounted in a bearing 23 carried in the bayonet handle 30 to which is secured a sleeve 28 connected by a screwed ring 34 to a sleeve 33, capable of rotation but not of longitudinal movement in a ring 32 screwed to a second ring 31 secured to the sheath 19. The tool shaft 22 carries a clutch member 24 engaging a corresponding member 25 on a short shaft 26, mounted in ball bearings 27 in the sleeve 28 and connected to the flexible core 17 by a bushing 29 welded to the core. To disengage the clutch members 24, 25, a quarter turn is given to the bayonet handle 30, this movement being allowed by the sleeve 33 without affecting the sheath 19. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
