Abstract

586,718. Shaft couplings. JESSOP, R. E. E. Dec. 30, 1943, No. 21866. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 24, 1944.] [Class 80 (ii)] A resilient shaft coupling comprises a non- circular pad 14 of resilient material such as rubber, leather, felt or plastic arranged between driving and driven flanges 10, 11. The pad is preferably polygonal and is received in corresponding recesses 15 in the flanges 10, 11, and is also provided with radial ribs 31 or grooves on its sides interfitting with grooves 32 or ribs within the flange recesses. The pad may be secured to the two flanges by bolts 20 engaging in recessed holes 26 in the pad or the assembly may be secured together as a unit for insertion between the flanges of an ordinary coupling by an axial bolt between the two flanges 10, 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also arrangements in which the pad is circular, the radial ribs and grooves only transmitting the drive. Alternatively the radial ribs and grooves are omitted and the drive taken by the bolts securing the pad to the flanges. In a still further arrangement a pad of metal or wood is employed having rubber bushings engaged by connecting bolts or pins on the flanges. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
