Abstract

288,202. Conod, G., and Lecoultre, F. C. F. April 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Plastic compositions containing calcium carbonate and sulphate and colloidal silica.-Crystalline calcium carbonate powder (30 k.g.) is mixed with calcium sulphate or other binding agent (50 kg.) and with colloidal silica solution (5 kg.) to produce an imitation marble or other stone, which may be veined and coloured in known manner. The crystalline CaCO3 may be obtained by baking limestone fragments at 1290‹ C. in an electricoven under 100 atmospheres pressure and disintegrating the hot mass by immersion in water; or by dissolving CaCO3 in water saturated with CO2 and re-precipitating by Na2CO3. The colloidal silica is obtained by dialysis of a, mixture of sodium silicate and HCl solutions.
