Jan. 27, 1927- Mercury switches. - A mercury contactcolumn apparatus comprises two stationary contacts t, u at different levels, the two contacts being connected in parallel to the winding of an electromagnetic switch x controlling a motorstarter. The mercury rises and falls under changing pneumatic pressure. The switch is closed when the mercury rises to touch the upper contact, and is not opened until the mercury falls below the lower contact.
