Abstract
192,202. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Nov. 8, 1921. Oil switches comprise an oil tank 10 with fixed contacts 14, 15 mounted in insulators on the cover 11, the operating member 17 carrying the bridging contact 16 and passing through the bottom of the tank and through a gland 20. The high pressures developed in the tank when the arc is drawn, assist the opening movement and closing pressure is eliminated. The cover is provided with a guide 21 for the upper end of the operating rod perforated to admit the pressure to the upper end of the operating rod. In a modified construction which eliminates closing pressure on the moving contact parts the upper end of the rod is carried through the cover and through a gland, the switch being operated from the upper end and the lower end passing through the gland, serving solely to prevent closing pressure on break.
