Abstract

286,348. Callender's Cable & Construction Co., Ltd., and Watson, J. F. Nov. 30, 1926. Cable couplings.-The cores of electric cables are placed under tension by means of a telescopic coupling-member G, H having sockets F, H, Fig. 3, into which the cable ends B' are secured, the telescoping parts being drawn together by a spring K within the outer part G. The socket H<1> and its cable are connected by metal braid M to the collar J of the outer parts G on which the other socket F is mounted. While the cable ends are being secured in the sockets the spring is compressed by screwing up a nut L against the collar J, and subsequently released. Each joint is surrounded by an insulating tube D, a brass liner being interposed as a bearing surface and electrostatic shield. For a multicore cable the joints are assembled with spacers E, C, Fig. 1, and enclosed in a casing A filled with oil or insulating compound, the member G and electrostatic shield being slotted to allow percolation of the oil &c.
