337,747. Callender's Cable & Construction Co., Ltd., and Wilson, A. E. July 31, 1929. Sleeve couplings.-A pipe, cable sheath, &c. 1 is jointed to another pipe &c. 2, Figs. 1 and 5, which by reason of its material, form or dimensions offers a greater resistance to compression than the pipe 1, by an external sleeve which is compressed around the joint, the end 3 of the sleeve which coacts with the pipe 2 being formed with circumferential, longitudinal &c. grooves 5 so that there is less resistance to compression at this end of the sleeve than at the other end. Alternatively grooves 10, Fig. 6, are formed in the end of the pipe 2. The jointing sleeve is formed of or lined with readily fusible metal and is subjected to heat during the jointing operation. Specifications 246,306 and 275,823 are referred to.
