Abstract
287,239. MacDonald, W. R. Dec. 17, 1926, Cable couplings.-A cable joint comprises members a, a' that can be connected together and are of tapered or similar form at their outer ends, circumferential ribs c or equivalent means being provided to retain in position a covering of rubber that is applied to the joint. The cable is soldered into a socket d the insulation being removed or turned back to expose the inner coating of pure rubber. A strip of vulcanized rubber with a pure rubber lining is then wound helically over the joint. If the joint is subsequently disconnected the tape can be removed at the centre, and the ribs c prevent the remainder of the tape from becoming dislodged. In the construction shown the members a, a<1> have flattened portions that overlap and are secured together by screws b.
