Abstract

A connector for joining two conductors electrically includes two parts (1, 2) which are engageable with respective conductors and have complementary shapes for engaging each other. Both parts are made of niobium, and their electrically engaging surfaces (21) are of a platinum group metal, alloys of these metals, or electrically conductive oxides of the metals. The parts may be formed with intermediate portions having knurling (7) and flats (8) which provide a long creep path to prevent sea water from reaching the cable connection and also to improve bonding to an encapsulating resin which is applied to the final connection. One part may have longitudinal slits (12) and be deformed inwardly to grip the other part tightly.
