Abstract

285,663. Jennings, I. C. March 14, 1927. Pumping-machines. - A universal coupling, shown applied to the connection of a turbinetype air-pump rotor 11 with the impeller 19 of a centrifugal water pump, comprises a short shaft 25 having bulbous heads 26, 27 carrying in transverse holes 28, preferably at right angles, rotatable pins 30, the ends of which are preferably flattened to engage axial grooves 21 in a cylindrical recess 20 in a driving-member 16 and similar grooves in a cylindrical recess 13 formed in a part of the rotor 11 extending beyond its shaft 12. The member 16, being screwed on the driving shaft 10, serves as a nut to retain the impeller 19 thereon, and is readily detachable for repairs. The end of the part 16 may project through a flanged sealing-plate 22 into the airpump casing 23.
