Abstract

626,021. Centrifugal pumps. MURRAY DEODORISERS, Ltd. June 27, 1947, No. 17019. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1938. [Class 110(i)] A multi-stage centrifugal pump for milk and other perishable fluids has a casing formed in two parts 2, 3 which enclose and secure separate impeller housings 20, 21; the impellers 32, 33, 34 are separate, and the whole is readily dismantled for cleaning. The parts are designed to secure smooth flow of the fluid all through the pump. In the embodiment shown, the inlet pipe 18 is connected to the casing part 2, which is secured by hand-nuts 6 to studs on the casing part 3, the latter having a boss 11 whereby it is mounted in a standard on a base-plate 16 and being formed with a discharge volute 7. The casing parts 2, 3 have a spigot and socket connection, and the impeller housings 20, 21 have a similar connection and rest in seatings in the parts 2, 3, being clamped together by the latter parts. The boss 11 encloses a bearing for the shaft 13 and has a sealing gland 14. The impellers 32, 33 are keyed on a reduction part of the shaft and secured thereon by the impeller 34, which is screwed on to the end of the shaft. The other end of the shaft enters another bearing on the far side of the driving means, which may be a pair of belt pulleys or an electric motor.
