Abstract

Hatch fastenings.-In means for securing hatch covers in position in which flexible bands are employed which extend from side to side of the hatchway means are employed to stretch these bands throughout their effective length comprising, according to Fig. 2, bell-crank levers b to the arms b<1>, b<2> of which the bands a and heads k of screw shackles m are respectively attached the lower ends of the screw shackles being attached to the coaming d. Alternatively, the bell-crank levers b can be eliminated by employing screw shackles the lower ends of which are anchored to the coaming adjacent to the one over which the band a extends. For locking the screwthreaded pin l against turning in the shackle m, a pin n<1> engaging with extended longitudinal slots m<3> in the shackle is passed through a slit in the pin, the further end of the pin being secured by a padlock passed through the hole n<2>.
