Abstract

Boat covers, securing.-The usual strong back which supports the cover of the stowed boat is replaced by a collapsable ridge, such as a wire rope 1, which is secured at one end by a terminal screwed member 5 linked to the loop 2 on the end of the rope 1 and detachably secured to a fitting 7 secured to the stem of the boat by a butterfly nut 11 having an extension 10 which takes into a recess in the fitting 7. At the opposite end, the rope is attached to a hook 12 pivoted at 13 to a fitting 14, the mouth of the hook being closed by the mousing 16 whilst its tail is secured by a link 18 which slides in a slot in the felting. These arrangements permit the cover support 1, which may be passed through a pocket in the cover, to collapse to free the cover either by operating the nut 11 or releasing the hook 12. In a modification, the rope 1, Fig. 9, is tightened by a turnbuckle 32 the free end of which has an eye 33, passing over the straight side 34 of a slip link 35 which passes over the stem 36 of the boat and is secured by a locking-pin which is passed through the transverse hole 38. The link is further secured by the preventer link 39.
