Refrigerating, absorption machines for.- Vapour from the refrigerant used for cooling the rectifier 10 as described in the parent Specificatiou is passed to a point 12 in the condenser coil 3 beyond the point 4 at which the main flow of vapour from the generator is admitted, and a seal 7 of liquefied refrigerant is provided between the condenser and the evaporator 6 in order to prevent flow of vapour from the point 12 to the evaporator. The rectifier, which is located in the upper part of the gas expulsion pipe 1 of the generator, is surrounded by a chamber supplied through a pipe 8 with part of the condensed refrigerant. In starting up the apparatus only a small quantity of vapour from the generator passes to the evaporator before the seal 7 is filled with condensate.
