Abstract
<PICT:0427302/III/1> In evaporating liquids under vacuum by the mechanical work done on an easily liquefiable gas, e.g. sulphur dioxide, ammonia, or methyl chloride, circulated in a closed system, the gas compressed by a pump E is circulated through a coil C where it gives up heat to liquid in an evaporator A and then with reduction of pressure at a valve F through a coil D where it receives heat in condensing the vapours evolved from the evaporator A and passed through a condenser B also maintained under vacuum. The coil C may be arranged in the form of a drum or roller onto which the liquid is sprayed and evaporated to a dry powder.
