Abstract
In the vacuum evaporation or spray drying by means of hot air, of hydrochloric acid-containing sugar solutions derived from wood, the gas and steam evolved in either case is utilized to preheat the solutions so as to remove sufficient of the hydrochloric acid to enable the gases evolved from the subsequent vacuum evaporation or spray drying to be completely removed in a condenser. In the former method of working, the fresh solutions may be preheated indirectly by passing the vapours through acid-resisting tubes immersed therein; in the latter direct preheating may be used by contacting the solutions with the vapours.ALSO:In the vacuum evaporation or spray drying by means of hot air of hydrochloric acid-containing sugar solutions derived from wood, the gas and steam evolved in either case is utilized to preheat the solutions so as to remove sufficient of the hydrochloric acid to enable the gases evolved from the subsequent vacuum evaporation or spray drying to be completely removed in a condenser. In the former method of working, the fresh solutions may be preheated indirectly by passing the vapours through acid-resisting tubes immersed therein; in the latter direct pre-heating may be used by contacting the solutions with the vapours.
