Abstract

Whey is concentrated in a vacuum evaporator E at a temperature not exceeding 156 DEG F. and then dried on a steam heated roller drier D. The drier is driven by a steam engine S, both being supplied with steam from a boiler B, and the exhaust steam from the engine is utilized in the evaporator E. A condenser C utilized with the latter is cooled by water from a reservoir P, the overflow being returned <PICT:0447105/III/1> to the reservoir through spray nozzles Y.
