Jib cranes.-To keep the load in a horizontal or other predetermined path during luffing, the load rope n passes round pulleys d<1>, d on fixed and movable centre l, h, the pulleys d being carried at the junction of the jib tie f with a radius'link j, and the pulleys d being over the Jib foot with the distance b-l+h-e equal or approximately equal to the distance b-e. In arrangements illustrated for balancing and luffing the jib, a weighted toothed sector is carried on the link j a luffing rope is anchored at l, led around pulleys at h and l to a luffing drum and over a pulley on the crane frame to an anchorage, forming a bight in which a counterweight is suspended; or a luffing drum is connected with the jib tie by screw and nut gear and with the counterweight by a tail rope.
