281,491. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. F'arbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 7, 1927. Hydrochloric acid. - Anhydrous metallic chlorides and hydrogen chloride are obtained by reacting oxides with a mixture of gases containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and chlorine, for instance, a mixture of water gas and chlorine. Chlorides volatilizing with the hydrogen chloride are condensed, and the hydrogen chloride completely freed from metallic chlorides before being absorbed in water by washing with concentrated hydrochloric acid.
