Abstract
Waste water containing cyanide is treated in counter-current, without previous heating, preferably in an irrigation plant, with gases containing carbon dioxide such as kiln gases, waste gases of blast furnaces, and exhaust gases of gas engines, to decompose the cyanide, hydrocyanic being recovered in known manner. The temperature of the gas used is immaterial. The gas may pass up an iron pipe packed with fireclay down which a cyanide solution containing say 1 gram or 0,1 gram of HCN per litre trickles. The discharged water contains at most only traces of hydrogen cyanide.ALSO:Waste water containing cyanide is treated in countercurrent without previous heating, preferably in an irrigation plant, with gases containing carbon dioxide such as kiln gases, waste gases of blast furnaces, and exhaust gases of gas engines, to decompose the cyanide, hydrocyanic acid being recovered in known manner. The temperature of the gas used is immaterial. The gas may pass up an iron tube filled with fireclay down which a cyanide solution containing say 1 gram or 0,1 gram of HCN per litre trickles. The discharged water contains at most only traces of hydrogen cyanide.
