280,169. Calcott, W. S., Parmelee, A. E., and Lorriman, F. R. Nov. 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Lead tetra-ethyl is prepared by the interaction of ethyl chloride and an alloy of lead with both sodium and potassium. The reaction may be effected in an open or closed vessel, and at ordinary or raised temperature. According to the examples, ethyl chloride is heated for some hours at temperatures of 30' and 45‹ C. in a closed vessel with lead alloyed with 9.4 or 9.5 per cent sodium and 0.75 per cent potassium; the yields are contrasted with those obtained by the use of lead containing 10 per cent of sodium only.
