Abstract

279,946. Lapierre, L. Aug. 5, 1026. Fibres, treating.-Hemp and other ligneous fibres are treated to give them a silk appearance by placing them in the form of a mat upon rotating screens in an autoclave, in which, after degumming, they are treated for two hours at a temperature of about 120‹ C. with a solution obtained by running into a large sheet lead reservoir a hot solution of 10 kilograms of nitrate of potash in 500 litres of water and adding ammoniacal potassium sulphide 5,000 grams, sodium chloride and borate mixed in equal parts 1,000 grams, magnesium sulphide 1,000 grams, ammoniacal copper oxide 250 grams, and water 100 litres. The fibres are then washed, treated with a 2 per cent solution of hydrochloric acid. again washed, treated with 1 per cent, oxaline oil introduced into a 1 per cent. bath of nitrate of potash, dried and separated.
