Cutting slices in succession. - In a slicing- machine driven by an electric or other motor, the knife support and a casing for the transmission mechanism are so shaped as to be capable of being cast as a single unit, the casing extending from the knife support at the side thereof opposite to the slicing-station. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the plate 1 carries a bearing boss 2 for the knife shaft, and a ledge 3 which supports the slice plate, the boss 2 and the ledge 3 being joined by a rib 4 which limits. laterally the space between the boss and the ledge. The plate 1 and the rib 4 are extended beneath the ledge 3 and the plate 1 is extended at 8 beyond the rib 4, the extension 8 having a flange 9 to form a transmission gear casing. Ribs 6, intended to be secured to another part of the machine, extend rearwardly from the lower part of the back of the plate 1, and a rearwardlyprojecting rim or flange 7 merges into two of the ribs 6 and forms a casing for the chain transmission to the knife. The transmission gear within the casing 8, 9 comprises a belt and driving, driven and jockey pulleys, and is enclosed by a flat plate secured to the front of the casing.
