Abstract

279,561. Glanfield, S. T. July 29,1926. Side-cars; folding vehicles; vehicles with removable bodies.-The tubular chassis of side cars and other motor vehicles is provided with one or more fittings whereby the chassis may be folded or collapsed or may be detachably connected to the motor cycle &c. The fitting is of the knuckle or fork and eye type and comprises a part a having a conical seating e into which a tapered pin h<1>, on the other part b of the fitting, enters a second tapered pin h and screw or like means f being provided to keep the tapered surfaces of the pin h<1> and socket e together. In another form, Fig. 2, a screw f with tapered part k and a nut m serves to keep the tapered parts of the joint together. The chassis, Fig. 4, of the folding side car is kept extended when desired by tubular rods j on which the body of the side car is mounted by means of its springs. Fig. 5 shows a rigid chassis having the fittings used as a detachable connection between the side car and the chassis.
