Abstract

277,991. Bennett, C. E. cent. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Fusible cut-outs.-A fuse 15 for high voltages is enclosed in a casing 26, Fig. 1, of low-grade rubber or other flexible non-inflammable insulating material, the casing being capable of withstanding considerable pressures but having a weakened point near the centre such as a puncture 29 covered by a clip 30. The casing is secured to the contact ferrules 16, 17 by screwrings 28, and the fuse wire is clamped by a washer 24, a rubber &c. packing washer 25, and a screw plug 23. A protective layer 43 of synthetic rubber prevents deterioration of the casing. For very high voltages a corona shield may surround the casing comprising a highresistance fluid 33, such as distilled water, enclosed in an outer casing 32. A metal washer 37 closes the water space and is clamped by the screw ring 38 that secures the outer casing. The water &c. extinguishes the arc when the tube bursts on blowing of the fuse.
