Abstract

[Class 38 (i)] A fuse as described in the parent Specification is made adaptable for fuse wires of various gauges by employing a resilient cap c, split across the end face c<2> and along one side. The fuse wire d is gripped between the cap and an inner contact ring b that fits over a shoulder a3 on the refractory body a. The collar a<4> extends beyond, the ring b into engagement with a liner i of compressible insulation such as asbestos that with a metal backing plate g seals the end of the fuse chamber a<1>. The cap is surrounded by an insulating sleeve e that is divided into two segments held together by a spring ring f. A vent hole is provided in the side of the body a. One end of the fuse may be permanently secured in a screw cap that converts it into a plug fuse.
