Abstract

Rotary scraper apparatus; gaseous currents, materials carried by.-Batches of granular materials, such as ammonium salts after partial drying in a centrifugal apparatus, are fed through a hopper 8 into a chamber 1 and traversed over superposed plates by rotary scrapers to a rotatable discharge-plate 27 in countercurrent to a current of hot air introduced through an opening 14. The dried material is discharged from the plate 27 through an outlet 19 by a blast of hot air introduced at an opening 16. Neutralizing agents such as ammonia may be introduced into the chamber 1. The scrapers are secured to a hollow shaft 6 which is driven through gearing from a motor 7, while the plate 27 is secured to a shaft 17 which can be engaged with the shaft 6. The scrapers are gradually lowered during the traversing operation through a screw 24 actuated bv a pawl and ratchet mechanism 15, 23.
