- To all whom it may concern:
3 Be it known that I, J AN Nnsn'rfun, citizen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, residing at Prague, '11, Austria-Hungary, have in- 5 vented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Mixing Cement and Fibrous Material, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to 'an apparatus for mixing'cement and fibrous material such as asbestos, for use in the molding of railway sleepers and other articles, f '7 The object of the invention is'to insure a proper reduction of the fibrous material and a thorough intermingling of the reduced fiber with the pulverized or powered cement, first in the dry state and then with the addition of water, and to enable these operations to be carried out by and'in thesame appa ratus with eflioiency and economy.
WVith these objects in view the mvention consists in the combination of parts herelnafter referred to and set forth in the claims.
Inthe accompanying drawings :Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a sectional front elevation and a sectional side elevation of one form of apparatus according to the inven? tion.
The form of apparatus illustrated comin a casing 24, and-astationary cover or roof- 26 provided with spikes between which and the spikes on the drum the asbestos is torn or reduced to small pieces or fibers. Adjacent to the drum and forming part of the casing 24 is a store compartment 27 for the pulverized cement, a conveying roller 28, arranged at the lower end of the said compartment conveying the cement into the path of co. the fibers falling down from the drum 25.
At a point where the fibers and the cement meet, a pair of rollers 29, are revclubly mounted- These rollers are provided with a series of grooves in such a manner that the as points of the grooves of one roller engage.
the corresponding grooves of the other roller. Moreover, the smaller roller 30 rotates at a greater speed than the larger roller 29 and in this way and by these means 59 the asbestos fibers and the cement are subjected to a primary mixing and the fibers are combed or made to lie parallel to each other. Below the rollers 29, 30 is a funnel whichleads the mixture into a secondary mixing device comprising a main casing 24 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1915.
Application filed March 6, 1914. Serial No. 822,982.
in which there is a second smaller casing 31 of substantially cylindrical shape and rotafore to allow of the admission of water into as the asbestos-cement mixture-during the secondary mixing operation. Alternately mounted between the plates 33 and on the circumference of the drum 32 and partly withinrecesses provided therein are rollers 73 36 the axles of which carry on one side toothed wheels 37., 'All of these toothed wheels mesh witha stationary large toothed wheel 38 so that the rollers 36, upon the rotat1on of the drum 32, are caused to rotate not only around their own axes but also around that of the said drum, thus effecting a thorough secondary mixture and uniform moistening of the asbestos and cement. The resulting mixture is now caused to drop into a funnel 41 secured at the bottom of the casing 31 whence it falls between two rollers 39 and finally into a charge or filling box 47. The upper funnel 40 mounted at the top of the casing for the reception and guidance of'the falling asbestos and cement, and the lower funnel 41 are provided with slides 42 and 43 respectively, in order that the corresponding inlets to and outlets from the casing may be shut off when so desired.
Toconvey the mixture of asbestos" and cement provision is made on the base 44 of the main casing 24 of a small rail track 45. A wagon or truck 46 preferably having rubber tires is adapted to carry the filling Water to said secondary mixing means, and means for discharging the resulting Wet mlxture substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
2. Apparatus for mixing cement and fibrous material, comprising means for re fibrous material, comprising a spiked roller and a spiked surface in fixed relation thereto, for reducing the fibrous material, a hopper for pulverized cement, a pair of intermeshing grooved rollers below' said spiked roller and hopper for subjecting the fibrous material and cement to a primary mixing, secondary mixing means, a funnel for conveying the primarily mixed fibrous material and cement from the aforesaid rollers to the said secondary mixing means, and means for supplying water to said secondary mixing means substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
4. Apparatus for mixing cement and fibrous material, comprising, primary mixing means for mixing fibrous material and cement in the dry-state, a funnel for discharging the dry mixture to secondary mixing means said secondary mixing means consisting of two concentric casings, the larger being stationary and the smaller being rot-table, hollow perforated plates on said rotay casing, a hollow shaft for said rotary casing, tubes connecting said shaft with the aforesaid hollow plates for conveying Water thereto, and rollers carried by the rotary casing, and means for rotating said rollers about their own axes, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses. v
