Abstract

202,386. Knight, J. S., and Hudson, H. May 16, 1922. Composition fuel briquettes are made by spraying from both sides a freely falling thin wide sheet of powdered fuel material with a binding agent such as waste sulphite liquor, and subjecting the impregnated material in masses to compression. The powdered material is delivered, after grinding and screening operations, to a feed hopper A from which it is fed at a uniform rate on to converging plates E by means of rotating cylinders B each having a filling and discharging opening C. On each side of a passage F sulphite liquor, pumped into chambers H surrounded by hot water or steam chambers L, issues from a row of nozzles I and is sprayed by compressed air from a row of jets J on to the falling fuel. The impregnated material passes through a screw conveyer to a roller press having recesses T; the formed briquettes are heated to about 350‹ C.
