775,210. Coating jubes, jellies and like confections with sugar. FAERBER, H. A. Jan. 7,1955 [Jan. 28, 1954], No. 489/55. Class 28(1) A machine of the horizontal rotary rotary drum type for coating jubes with sugar, has, mounted within the drum 1, an open ended cylinder consisting of a sheet metal part 15 and a perforated part 16 adjacent the inlet and outlet ends respectively, one or more spiral ribs 20 within the cylinder to forward the jubes through the machine and means for supplying sugar to the cylinder, the surplus sugar passing through part 16 and being fed by one or more internal ribs 9 within the drum to the inlet end where fins 11 on the ends of ribs 9 and a ramp 29, mounted on the frame of a conveyer 28 for feeding jubes to the machine, direct the sugar into the cylinder. Drum 1 is supported on rollers 2 carried on shafts 3 mounted in bearings 4 on a base 5, one shaft being rotated by a belt drive 6 from a motor so as to rotate the drum. The cylinder has, at one end fins 18 which engage a support 12 mounted in fins 11 and at the other end is secured to a flange 7 on the drum. Sugar is supplied to the drum by a hopper 21 with a gravity discharge outlet having a valve 25 and a shoot 26 terminating in the gauze section of the cylinder. Jubes are fed through a steam heater 33 and then to the cylinder by an endless conveyer 28. Conveyer 28 and the hopper 21 may be moved clear to allow the machines to be cleaned. Side plates 30 prevent sugar from falling on to conveyer 28. The jubes are discharged from the drum on to conveyer 35.
