Presses; rotary-table machines; moulding pulp; moulds; pressing-plungers.-A machine for compressing peat &c. comprises a chamber comprising side walls formed from spaced metal plates, a slidable cover also formed of spaced metal plates, and a slidable plunger. As shown in Fig. 1, the chamber is formed of side walls comprising metal plates a spaced by washers &c. b. A sliding cover f. also formed of spaced metal plates, closes the chamber in which the material is compressed by a plunger e having its upper surface d formed of spaced metal plates and hollowed for the escape of water. Fig. 4 shows an hydraulic press wherein the cover f is held down by rollers o and the plunger is carried by a ram g. Material is fed to the compression chamber from a supply pipe n through an inlet l in a box-like member k, the supply being cut off by the ascent of the plunger. A number of presses may be arranged in line and operated simultaneously. The pressed blocks are carried away by a belt. A number of machines may be mounted upon a rotary table.
