Abstract

277,392. Backer, W. H. March 11, 1926. Reciprocating sieves.-In screens of the type which are suspended from hangers or supported by rollers so as to have a to-and-fro and up-anddown movement, the base of the screen is formed by one or more perforated trays which are pivoted to the screen frame at one end and are actuated by cams against the pressure of springs so as to have a rising movement followed by a sharp fall. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the tray e is pivoted at f and maintained in the general plane of the screen by springs i. A cam m mounted on a shaft k has a step n and acts on a stepped projection o carried by the tray. Fig. 5 shows another construction in which the cam r oscillates and acts in both directions on a V-shaped projection o. The cam shaft k is actuated by a crank-arm and link connection to a stationary point of the machine. When a plurality of trays are provided, they are actuated by cam devices interconnected to act simultaneously or in succession.
