Abstract

Regulating transformers. - In order to compensate for the difference in the variation of leakage and the variation of repulsion between the primary and secondary coils with variation of distance between them in automatic regulating transformers of the movable coil type, there is provided a correcting mechanism, adapted on movement of the secondary coil to be displaced with respect to a dead point position on opposite sides of which the mechanism is adapted to act upon the coil in opposite directions. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the secondary coil b is pivoted at e so as to be movable with respect to the primary coil a on the core c. The correcting mechanism comprises a screw-adjustable weight h on an arm g<1> pivoted at g and connected by an arm f to the coil b so that when the coils are close together the weight opposes repulsion and when they are further apart it assists the repulsion between them. In addition an electromagnet connected to the current source may be arranged to attract the member d to assist in overcoming the repulsion between the coils when they are close together. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2, the correcting mechanism comprises a spring t bearing on a cranked member p journaled in a bracket o and having secured thereto an arm s carrying the movable secondary coil b, the arrangement being such that the spring assists or opposes repulsion between the coils according to the position of the crank p with respect to the dead centre.
