Controllers with overload release.-In an electromagnetic overload and underload release for motor-starters the attraction of a series coil 1 upon the overload release armature 10 is weakened during by the starting period by an air gap between the fixed core and a movable core 3 serving as an underload release armature to the same coil. The starting movement of the controller spindle 32 acts through a cranked lever lever 16 to lift the core 3 from the position of Fig. 5 to that of Fig. 1, and a possible premature rise of the coil is prevented by a member 34 obstructing a core tail-piece 27, the obstruction not being removed till the starting movement of the controller spindle is completed. In a modification the underload armature lies in a parallel branch of the magnetic circuit with respect to the overload armature and is arranged to move away from the coil during the starting period.
