Abstract
239,503. Soc. Anon. des Etablissements TÚcalÚmit, (Assignees of Epitaux, A.). Sept. 2, 1924, [Convention date]. Electromagnets; reciprocating and oscillating machines.-An electromagnetic device consists of a magnet with two movable armatures each normally held away from the magnet by a spring and each provided with a contact piece adapted to close the exciting circuit when the pieces are in contact, one piece being fixedly secured to one armature which operates a ratchet wheel and the other piece being yieldingly mounted on the second armature the weight of which assists its movement towards the magnet. In the form shown, the magnet core 1 has two pivoted armatures 3, 4 of large and small inertia respectively normally held away from the core by springs 9,. 12. The magnetic circuit is completed by a fixed yoke 5 carrying an insulated screw 13 which acts a stop to the tail of the armature 4. This armature carries, on a spring 11, a contact piece which co-operates with a second contact on the tail 10 of the armature 3. An extension 6 of this armature carries a pawl operating a wheel 8. When the slow-moving armature 3 reaches the end of its travel away from the core, under the action of the spring 9, the contacts are closed and the core is energized. Both armatures are attracted and the upper one 4, owing to its greater speed, keeps the contacts closed until the slowmoving one moves to its uppermost limit and opens them. The upper armature is then moved sharply by the spring 12 until stopped by the screw 3 and the spring 9 again initiates the cycle which is continuously repeated thereafter. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the attraction of the second armature may be produced by a flux derived or separate from that of the main flux of the magnet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
