Abstract

276,297. Adelantado, L. Aug. 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Manures.-In making manures, finely divided natural phosphates are treated with soluble sulphates in the presence of a mineral acid, preferably sulphuric acid, at least three molecular weights of sulphuric acid and three of sulphates (preferably potassium or ammonium sulphates) to two molecular weights of tricalcic phosphate being employed. The masses obtained are washed with hot water, and the acid lyes neutralized, concentrated and crystallized out. Corresponding chlorides, sulphates, and the like may be added, or the lyes may be used for impregnating organic or inorganic material such as peat. By using a mixture of two sulphates double salts, e.g. potassium ammonium phosphate are obtained. To the phosphate treated with sulphuric acid and sulphates, may be added a quantity of phosphate equal to that first used, to give a mixture of mono and di alkali phosphates. The acid lyes, mother liquors of the crystals, and water used for washing them, may be used in further treatment of raw phosphate. A residual product remains of calcium sulphate and a small percentage insoluble phosphate. Specifications 191,129 and 239,551 are referred to.
