Abstract

276,160. Conrad, S. E. Sept. 13, 1926. Scissors and handshears for cutting cloth &c. are opened by a volute spring 8 mounted on pins 9 and are closed to effect the cut by pressure on the handle 4 of the lower blade 1, the other blade 2 being operated by the reaction of the table &c. top on a button 6 carried on the shank 7 which is shorter than the handle 4. The scissors are maintained closed when out of use by a leather &c. sheath, not shown, slipped over the closed blades. In a modification the volute spring 8 is omitted and the blades are opened by a bowed spring forming an extension of the shank 7 of the upper blade, the bowed part of the spring contacting with the table top and the free end bearing against the under surface of the handle of the lower blade.
