Garment racks and stands. - An appliance for toasting, grilling, drying, and like purposes, comprise a base 7, an upright 6, a clamping-member 9, 10 slidable on the upright and carrying one or more links 13; 15 to the end of which a bearing 16 for a rotary fork or like member is adjustably clamped by a screw 23. The base 7 is extended at 8 to render the device more stable and to support a, receptacle for drippings. The end of the rod 6 is screwed and is preferably tapered or spiked so that, when detached from the base, it may be stuck into the ground. The upright 6 may be hinged at 6<a>, in which case the link 13 may be pivoted directly on the upright 6. The rotary fork member comprises a spindle 17 passing through the bearing 16 and having a milled head 18 and prong members 25. A spring 21 is interposed between the head 16 and the bearing 16 to retard the turning of the fork. A stop 20 limits vertical movement. Instead of a single rotary member, a number of such members may be mounted in a bar substituted for the bearing 16. The fork may have side prongs 26, as shown in Fig. 4, the bread being impaled either at its edges or in a flat side. The dovetail portion 24 is received in a recess in the end of the spindle 17. The links 13, 15 may either or both be of telescopic or lazy tongs formation and the upright 6 may be telescopic or collapsable.
