Description

M. RUSSIAN SHOP TOOL RACK Jan. 14; 1930.
Filed June 18, 1927 Patented Jan. 14, 1930 UNITE STATES MICHAEL RUSSIAN, or BINGI-IAMTON,1\TEW YORK SHOP-TOOL RACK Application filed. June 18,
My invention relates to improvements in shop tool racks for blacksmith and machinists tools, and especially adapted to railroad machine shops. It has for itsobject to provide a portable and conveniently accessible tool rack for machinists which may be simultaneously used by a plurality of machinists, and be readily moved to different locations in the shop and may be convenient for use.
With these objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the tool rack.
Fig. 3 is a side view partly in cross section of a fragmentary part of my device.
Fig. 4 is a side view partly in cross section of a fragmentary part of my device.
Fig. 5 is a side view of a fragmentary part of my device.
The same reference characters denote like parts in each of the several figures of the drawings.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a central vertical standard support A, the lower end of the support is mounted in any convenient manner on the legs 2, 2, 2, and at the lower end of the legs I may have mounted casters 3, 3, 3, or other means of rotatable support. In the top of standard A I have a pivot recess 5' slidably and rotatably mounted on the standard A as clearly shown in Fig. 3, I have a tubular sleeve B having a closure at its upper end provided with an opening therein, 6, and pivotally mounted on the upper end of standard A, I have the standard 7, passing thru the opening 6 in sleeve B and having at its lower end the conical pivot member 5, resting in the recess 5. Onthe upper end of the standard 7, I have the tool pan 8. Mounted on the outer surface of, and near the lower end of sleeve B, I have a set of upward ly projecting slanting braces 8'. Mounted in any convenient manner across the top of sleeve B, and intersecting at right angles, to each other, I have the horizontally projecting step braces 10, 10, 10, the outer ends of 0116 01' more employees.
1927. Serial No. 199,843.
which project downward for a space in the slanting portions 11, 11, 11, and again proj ect horizontally outward for a space in the portions 12, 12, 12. The under side of the portions 12, 12, or step braces rest upon and are supported by the lugs 9, 9 on the upper end of the slanting braces 8, 8'; mounted on the upper surface of the step braces 10, 10, I have the parallel outer and inner rings 13, 13, spaced apart from each other, forming the curved slot 13, and mounted on the upper side of the step braces 12, 12, I have the outer and inner parallel rings 14, 14, spaced apart from each other, and forming the curved slot 14.
As a further part of my device, on the outer edge of rings 14, I have a plurality of open horizontally curved recesses 16, 16, and also mounted on the under side of the ring formations 14, 14, I have the hanger 17, on which I have mounted the vertical open lug projections 18. In the operation of my device I mount the larger tools in the rack with handles downward, passing thru the slot between the ring and the heads of the tools resting on and supported by the rings. The tools, known as S, wrenches, are supported by the handles being inserted in the curved lug projections 16 or 17. The smaller tools are placed in the pan 8; the tools thus slidably inserted in the curved slots are easily removed and replaced, any tool desired, or any group or kind of tool can be reached by the turning of the rack, two or more employees may use the same rack at the same time and reach the tools required; by turning the frame, any tool is brought within easy reach of the machinist, and on any side'of the rack; the tools are more easily replaced by being inserted in the elongated slot than thru a single circular opening as the work of several or groups of machinists change from one place to another in a shop, the rack is easily moved to any given point desired by Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and for which I desire Letters Patent is as follows:
In a tool rack for machinists a vertical standard portably supported at its lower end and provided at its upper endwith a conical recess, a sleeve slidably and rotatably mounted on the standard and per end with a closure aving an opening 7 therein, an extension in the upper end of the standard projecting through the opening in the ew, con c l P O mem e 'at h lowerendof the extension on which the 010- 7 sure in the sleeve rests, said pivot member he:
ing disposed in the recess at the upper end of the standard, horizontally extending cross' arms mounted at right angles to each other on the sleeve, horizontally arranged spaced apart rings mounted on the upper? surface of the cross arms and means for supporting the outer-- endsv of the cross arms.
In testimony whereof I have aifixed my signature. 7
