Transformers.-Laminated cores for transformers are built up of rectangular strips 1 - - 4 of magnetic material all of the same length and width, and so arranged that in alternate layers the strips 2, 4 forming the yokes project at opposite sides beyond the strips 1, 3 forming the legs so as to provide supports for the windings. The windings may be in the form of coils 11, 12 extending over the whole of the legs, or they may be arranged in staggered relation extending over only half the legs. The latter arrangement is shown in Fig. 10 which shows a three-phase transformer in which the core strips 5 - - 10 are similarly arranged, wooden or other packing strips 13, 14 being used to fill the spaces between the windings and the core extensions. Figs. 12 and 14 show respectively side and end views of a three-phase transformer in which the windings are arranged in two coils F, G connected in open delta and provided with end connections and tappings 26 - - 30. The core strips are clamped between angle members 18, 19, 18<a>, 19<a>, and the two sets of angle members are clamped between transverse plates 24, strips 23 of insulating material being placed between the angle members and the yokes. The clamping bolts 20, 20<a> are extended to form supports for the transformer.
