Tipping-wagons.-In tipping wagons of the kind which are tipped by means of an extensible pair such as a screw and nut the displacement of one or both elements is increased by means of a lever or levers pivoted to the body or chassis at one end and sliding on the chassis or body at the other end. Figs. 3 and 5 illustrate diagrammatically examples in which the nuts 7 in Fig. 3 is pivoted to the chassis 20 and the screw 5 bears upon a lever 18 pivoted to the chassis at 21 and sliding on the body at 23, while in Fig. 5 both the nut 7 and screw 5 are pivoted to levers 18b, 18<c> respectively pivoted to the body and to the chassis. In Fig. 6 the screw 5 bears upon the body 1 and rotates in a nut 7 mounted on pairs of trunnions 16, 17 at right-angles to one another and carried by a pair of levers 18, 19, Figs. 6 and 7. The levers are pivoted to the rear part 20 of the chassis to which the body is fixed and which tips about an axis 26 connecting the rear part to the front part 25 of the chassis. The front ends of the levers 18, 19 slide by means of rollers 23 on cams 24 carried by the front part 25 of the chassis, the trunnions 16, 17 by permitting angular movement of the screw 5 in any direction preventing distortion due to the position of the wheels on an uneven road and at the same time allow the body to be tipped either sideways or to the rear at will. To permit sideways tipping the body is supported by rockers 32 which can pivot in, and rise out of, seats 33, Figs. 7 and 15, mounted on the chassis. Grippers comprising screwoperated levers 36, Fig. 17, engaging parts 34 on the chassis retain the body rockers in their seats at the appropriate side during side tipping.
