Abstract
373,179. Steering road vehicles by rails. KING, C. R., 30, Parliament Hill, London. Nov. 12, 1930, No. 34103. , [Class 79 (v).] To enable road motor vehicles to be run on trackways TR arranged as shown in the Figure in association with railway tracks RA, a steering trolley T<1> is pivoted at P<1> on the front axle and carries two guide rollers GR<1> for contacting with the inner faces of the rails at an inclination of about 45 degrees to the vertical. The trolley is adapted to be raised and lowered by bevel gearing and when in lowered position with the rollers in contact with the rails a rearwardly-extending part of the trolley en. gages with a member ST on the cross-rod DL of the steering gear so that the vehicle is steered from the rails. The trolley also carries a pair of arms supported on the front axle of the vehicle and engaged by centralizing springs Z. Additional centralizing springs S cooperate with a sliding socket piece KT which is mounted on a shaft M<3> arid is engaged, when the trolley is lowered, by an extension of the trolley frame. A similar trolley T<2> is mounted on the rear axle of the vehicle in order to guide the rear end of the vehicle. This trolley is also adapted to be raised and lowered and is provided with two rearward extensions which are adapted, when the frame is lowered, to be supported on a cross-shaft M<4> and engaged by springs S<2>.
