Abstract

202,034. Mossay, P. A. H., Mossay & Co., Ltd., and Ransomes, Sims, & Jefferies, Ltd. May 10, 1922. Adjusting fore-carriages for steering. - In an automobile crane, which is both steered and slued by means of the road wheels, one or more pairs of road wheels 12, swivelled for this purpose, are mounted on inclined stub axles 107 so as to bring the wheels close together on the ground. These axles can rise and fall relatively to the steering- pillar, and can pivot about a horizontal axis to facilitate movement over uneven ground. Specification 183,921 is referred to. The invention is described in connection with a crane having front and rear pairs of steering-wheels 12 and two pairs of side wheels 3, one wheel 3 of each pair being driven through reduction gear by a motor 4. The axles 107 of the wheels 12 are carried by a black 108 having a cross-pin sliding in guides 109 on the steering-pillar and restrained by a pair of springs 16 which bear against opposite ends of a lever pivoted on the block. The crosspin allows the block to pivot on a horizontal axis.
