Abstract

273,744. Soc. Anon. des Distilleries des Deux-SÚvres. July 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Acetic, propionic, butyric and other fatty acids. -Anhydrous fatty acids or mixtures of such acids are obtained by extracting their aqueous solutions with an acetic acid ester or mixtures of such esters and then distilling the extract to separate first an aqueous ester, then the rest of the ester, and finally the anhydrous acid. The aqueous ester condensate separates into two layers, the ester being returned to the still. The esters mentioned are ethyl, propyl, and butyl acetates. Examples describe, the treatment of a 10 per cent solution of acetic acid with ethyl acetate, and a 5 per cent solution of butyric acid with butyl acetate.
