285,858. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Feb. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Cellulose carboxylates.-Esters of cellulose or of its conversion products with butyric, propionic, and other higher fatty acids, are prepared by reacting on cellulose &c. with a halogenated acetic acid anhydride and butyric acid &c. in the presence of a catalyst such as monochloracetic acid or sulphuric aid. The primary esters may be subjected to the action of an hydrolytically-acting agent, as by permitting further reaction to take place in the primary esterification solutions, after the addition of water.
