Benches, work.-A bench or power table for sewing machines comprises supporting legs, a table top and a longitudinal trough made up of side and bottom members together with securing means engaging the bottom member and serving to clamp the side members to the table top, the securing means being located between the side members. The supporting structure for the double table shown in Fig. 1 is constructed as described in Specification 267,899 and comprises extensible legs 1, 2, the upper members of which are rigidly secured to cross rails 4. The cross rails of the supporting structures of the several table sections are connected by rods 5, Fig. 2, and the planks 7 are secured to the cross rails by bolts 8 and clamp plates 9, the rods 5 lying in recesses 12 in the plank edges. Each trough section is made up of inclined sides 14 supported by a bottom member 15 rabbeted at the edges 16 to engage the correspondingly shaped edges of the side members, the several parts being secured in position by bolts 20, clamp plates 19 and strips 13. The top edges of the side members 14 are inclined so as to form vertical surfaces resting against the rods 5. Notches 17, Fig. 2, are formed in the adjacent ends of the side sections to receive the cross rails 4. Transverse division walls may be inserted in the channels of the cross rails and the end of the trough may be closed by a wall 22, with an aperture 23 for cleaning out the trough normally closed by a pivoted plate 24. Fig. 4 shows a single table with one plank only, the rear trough sections 14 abutting against an undercut strip 30 secured by U.clamps 28 and bolts 29 to the ends of the cross rails 4.
