Benches, work. - A supporting structure for benches or power tables for sewing machines consists of supporting legs each formed of two channel-section bars one sliding within the other and provided with means for adjustably securing them together, and cross rails of channel section, secured to the tops of the upper leg members. The ends of the table top planks are bolted to the cross rails, which are also connected by rods, and the lower leg members are detachably connected by cross rails. The upper member 15 of each leg slides within the lower portion 1 and is secured therein by a bolt 16 passing through a slot 18, Fig. 7, in the member 15 and through a hole in the member 1. The members 1 are connected by a channelsection cross bar 6, each end of which is fitted with a bolt 10, Fig. 6, entering a hole in the web of the leg member 1 and secured by a nut 13. Flattened surfaces 12, Fig. 6, on the head 11 of the bolts 10 engage the sides of a rectangular aperture 8 in a bent-over tongue 7 of the cross bar 6, and the bolts are firmly stayed by bent over lips 9 on the side flanges of the bar. The cross rails 21 are also of channel section and are rigidly secured as by welding or riveting to the leg members 15. The ends of the table planks 24, 25, 26 are secured over the cross rails by means of clamping members 27 and bolts 29, grooved plates 28 being interposed under the flanges of the rails. Hangers for power shafting 32 are provided as at 31 adjustably secured upon a bracket 33 resting on a cross bar 6, or as at 34, the latter particularly adapted for an electric transmitter.
