Abstract
196,367. Tolley, C. L. Jan. 20, 1922. Screens, furniture.-A table has a top greater in length but less in width than the distance between its supports, the top being movable so that it can hang vertically on the supports to form a fire-screen. The supports comprise two similar pairs of legs 3, 5, each pair being mounted closely together and carrying between them at their upper ends a board 8, the upper edge 9 of which lies below the upper surface of the legs. The underside of the detachable top 2 carries a pair of hooks 15 adapted to enter horizontal slots 12, 13 formed preferably by securing straps 10, 11 across the upper ends of the legs 3, 5. A pair of parallel blocks 16 on the underside of the table top abut one against each side of the bar 8. To form a fire-screen the top 2 is detached and hung by a fitting or fittings 17 on one or more hooks 14 on a side of the bar. In another construction, the movable top 2 is hinged to a member mounted on a vertical pivot on a block sliding horizontally between a pair of spaced rails connecting the upper ends of the legs. When used as a table, the block is near one end of the spaced rails and the top is suitably secured; when required as a fire-screen, the block is moved to a central position, and the top rotated first horizontally and then into a vertical plane.
