Abstract
273,367. Johnson, E. W., and Defries, C. March 5, 1926. Hinges.-Between a pivot pin 11 and its socket 1 is an intermediate member 10 of resilient material, such as rubber, spaces 5 being left between the member 10 and the socket 1 so that relative tilting of the pin 11 and the socket 1 is permitted. As shown, for the joints of a vehicle shock absorber, the member 10 is secured by a pin 15 and has a liner 12 of fabric impregnated with graphite. The block 10 may be of cotton and rubber with an outer wrapping of fabric, the whole being cured or partly vulcanized. In a modification the liner 12 is omitted and the connecting rod 14 is a steel strip and projects into the block 10 to secure it against axial displacement.
